Daily Create – Beginning and End

Today’s Daily Create instructions asked others to, “Make something that shows the beginning and ending together in one creative work.”  I remembered a particular book that inspired me years ago-A Tale of Two Cities.  The story has arguable one of the most famous beginning and ending lines in English literature.   So my reflection upon this beginning and end was my inspiration for the project.

Describing the brutality of the French aristocracy and the inevitable Revolution that follows, Dickens illustrates the potential parallel in English society.   As most of you are aware, Dickens uses Lucie Manette, the daughter of Doctor Manette, who was imprisoned in the Bastille, as the “golden thread” to tie characters, the cities, and the entire story together.

I used Word to display the beginning and end quotes, adding 1700s period pictures of Paris and London.  I saved the set up in Word and used Paint to draw my thread.  I wanted to symbolize the “golden thread” tying the opening and end lines together.
